"Every great culture has had art at its core. The further from center the arts devolve the closer to extinction that society becomes."
To me, abstract art is about basic human intimacy - passion expressed through paint and canvas - free of extraneous thought, drenched in color, draped with form, caressed with texture and graced with movement. Abstract art is exciting! When one attempts to “see something” the obvious has been overlooked. Do not waste your time with what might be a dragon or some “object” in the painting. Ask yourself instead: “Why do I resonate with this?” If you do not resonate with a particular piece it was not made for you.
Abstract painting is THAT intimate—it is just for you.
My works are created in series as I invent, explore and create new techniques – means of expression. Past series have included the Futuristic, ACEO, Impressionistic, and Luscious Series. I am currently consumed by the Marco Island Organic Series – it is intimacy with the earth, particularly our lovely island.
If you cannot see that Art is a necessity, keep looking!
ABOUT MY WORK!
I am an abstract artist. To me, abstract art is about basic, undisguised, naked, human passion - passion expressed through paint and canvas - free of extraneous thought, drenched in color, draped with form,
caressed with texture and graced with movement.
My works are created in series as I invent, explore and create a new technique. Past series have included the Futuristic, ACEO, Impressionistic, and Luscious Series, and lately:
THE MARCO ISLAND ORGANIC SERIES
My latest series is the Marco Island Series. It is plein air like never before seen. With each piece I use Gulf seawater, beach sand, small shell pieces and other organic matter found on the shores of beautiful Marco Island. Marco sunshine, wind and sometimes, rain, are part of the plein air abstract process. I sink each painting into the Gulf at various stages, bring it out onto shore, bury it in the sand while wet, bake it in the sun and with water-based paint, vegetable dies and what is handy in the sandy, manipulate the surface of the canvas with the paint, sand, my hands, brushes and whatever moves me. I then roll the canvas in plastic and let it cure overnight. It can take weeks of repeating the process until the piece is “birthed”. The canvas eventually is sun-dried and brought to the indoor studio for further work. Once complete the work is treated to preserve it, and then mounted. (Or not.)
If you own one of my MI Series paintings you can honestly claim that you have acquired Marco Island
beachfront property!
